June, 2017, Catch-Up

It has been a very intense couple of months so this will be a bit more “newsy” than normal. It’s time to catch up….

Ken Burns and Lynn Novick will be releasing a documentary in September about the Vietnam War. The program will be 18 hours long with release on PBS in September. We were fortunate to be at the Marines’ Memorial screening – it will be intense. There is a preview clip available and you can see the panel discussion with Phil Gioia, Lynn Novick and Joe Galloway, introduced by retired Marine Major General Myatt.

Valiance continued its support of fundraisers for Veterans programs during May.  Of particular note was one sponsored by the San Rafael American Legion to benefit the Fisher House Foundation.  Fisher House provides family-style accommodations near to medical facilities providing care for Veterans – highly recommended.

Earlier this month we had an opportunity to be volunteers for the Valor Games Far West.  Over the course of several hours we assisted in introducing Boccia to a number of interested athletes. This is the kind of event which really helps put life in perspective. It was truly humbling for the athletes to be thanking the volunteers when the reality was that we found the athletes determination and attitudes were truly a gift of inspiration to us. It would have been hard for a volunteer to give more than they received.

We are grateful for some very kind words via the internet: a post by Yelp Elite Alisa and a Memorial Day post by Tom Plant on his site.  A big Thank You to both Alisa and Tom!

And… we’re very pleased to announce that our Dedication VRM Rhone-style white wine honoring Rick Rescorla has been awarded GOLD by the 2017 Orange County Wine Competition! To top it off, both of our Acclaim wines They Wore Wings and The Reserves were awarded SILVER. As you might imagine, we are very pleased!

So, some upcoming events:

On July 8 We will be pouring at the Wine Country Big Q BBQ in support of Sonoma County Vet Connect.

On August 20 we will be one of the sponsors for the Wounded Veterans Polo Benefit which is usually a great event and very interesting.

If you are in the area for either of these very worthy events, please pay us a visit!

I’ll wrap up with a fascinating bit of history:

I happen to think Mike Rowe has a good perspective on quite a few things, plus he has a great way of presenting valuable information in a very entertaining way. I would recommend that you listen to his podcast, Episode 60: Something to Stand For.  It’s a bit of American history that I think should be familiar to every citizen (that’s why this is called the ‘Soapbox’).
